What will you be learning
You will be learning a new trade or hobby from master shoe- and bootmakers with a combined total of over eighty years experience in hand making modern, high quality, footwear. Yes, you can make any size men’s and women’s footwear up to size 18 AA to EEEEE and bigger, as needed. All footwear is made on wooden or plastic lasts (foot molds). We even tell you how to make your own plastic lasts using liquid plastic and an old pair of your own shoes or boots. We also give you addresses where you can buy lasts in the U.S.A. We do not teach you how to make footwear for people with foot problems, etc. However, as you gain experience you can learn on your own how to make footwear for some people with certain foot problems. We do not show you how to make any dinosaur type footwear either. We only teach modern footwear making. There is no end to the styles, colors and sizes you can make. Today, many women and younger people use our video home courses also.

Leather is the best material to use for making most footwear and this is
what we use in all our video courses. We do not use paper insoles or
other cheap materials. However, at any time you can substitute for
lower cost materials, if you like. We teach how to make high quality
footwear and with practice you can go on to make very fancy footwear. It
all comes with time and practice. The sky is truly the limit.
Few hand tools are needed.
You need approximately six inexpensive, easy-to-find hand tools, lasts (foot molds), and a low cost used home sewing machine to make modern footwear. However, a leather sewing machine is better but definitely not necessary. The main hand tools needed are 2 or 3 sharp knives, 2 shoemaker’s hammers, a pair of Lasting pincers, Nail pulling pincers, and a leather punch. A pegging awl and a Sutton type groover is used when making western boots etc. Please note, you cannot make quality footwear with only a sewing machine. You need a few hand tools and wooden or plastic lasts. We tell you where to buy all tools and supplies which are available to anyone. Some free footwear patterns are included with each of our courses to get you started.
